And now the second part of Daria’s interview!
-How did you build up the international relationships in the fashion world in order to bring positive attention to your country and your designers?
I think this process is eternal! In the sense that if you want to build strong international relationships, you need to work hard and do everything to maintain your connections. I’m also certain about the thing that if you do something scrupulously, it would be highly valued.
-Give some positive and some negative critiques and differences between Ukrainian, French, English and NY Fashion World.
My strong belief is that we can’t compare the fashion industries in, say, New York and Kiev. We have very different historical backgrounds and so we can’t rely on the same principles of building fashion environment. I don’t think I have enough rights and experience to criticize international fashion, so I would rather prefer to stay neutral. One thing I can admit is that everyone now is talking about the high pressure in the fashion industry. I quite agree that the pace of the industry is becoming uncontrolled, but I also think that fashion is not the most difficult area to work in. Let us think about medicine or politics.
The only thing I can criticize in Ukrainian fashion system is that some designers are still working as ateliers, for private clients only: we need to develop our textile industry, and if Ukrainian designers continue working just with private clients we will never develop the industry as such.
-What can you tell me about fashion in Russia and its contemporary evolution?
I hear a lot of criticism about the fact that Moscow has a couple of fashion weeks. I don’t agree that this is actually the biggest problem of Russian fashion industry. This situation is inevitable: with our post-soviet state of mind public will continue to confuse professional fashion and social events. God blessed there are enough people to understand the difference between the two. Cycles & Seasons for example has a great energy and potential, and I think that KFD has a lot in common with C&S. I am very proud for those Russian designers, who became known abroad: I understand how much work it has required. Ukrainian designers should learn a lot from their Russian colleagues: the latter are more assertive and determined.
-What are your upcoming projects?
There are a lot. I can’t open up all the secrets, because there are some ongoing projects. But we have plenty of new ideas for the future.
