Time for festivals_time for Vienna

I was born in Vienna and I know I miss a lot not living there…I didn’t study there either…and looking at the guest professors on modeklasse sometimes I feel that I should have done it!
The introduction of the Fashion Design course of the Art University of Vienna says: “In the age of media-oriented design and visual transportation of information the significance and influence of fashion and clothing have been increasing more and more. The cultural position of fashion lies in its inherent enormous potential of social presence and significance and the expression of publicness. Veronique Branquinho, the Belgium visiting professor, made it her main aim to mediate contemporary fashion design to his students and for them to develop collections that are placing aesthetical impulses for this ‘today’ and show a clear position in fashion. Since the early eighties international stars of fashion like Karl Lagerfeld, Jil Sander, Jean-Charles de Castelbajac, Vivienne Westwood, Marc Bohan, Helmut Lang, Viktor &; Rolf and from 2000-2005 Raf Simons have been holding the classes at the Fashion Department. Since 2005 the Antwerp Designer Veronique Branquinho is directing the artistic program of the Fashion Department”.
Maybe because of this environment many events, festivals, and young designers are emerging in this european city.
Last spring I went to see Modepalast, kind of a fashion fair/market very interesting image and with great designers; the next edition is approaching (26-29 of May) as well as the 11th festival (7-11 of June), that I’d like to go to this year…. Watch this space!!!
