The Indigo Princess is Faustine Steinmetz

Faustine is my new hero. everything is just perfect, starting from her website: clean, easy, updated, fashion sperimental (as bad this may sound); the campaign, the video. The Garments. The Garments. The material research. The concepts.

So 90, so catching, so confortable for sure, so simple, so handcrafted, so everything ahahha! And she is wise too. And intelligent. And has a “social content in her message”.  Check if you doubt what I’m saying!…though she goes innocently: “In our studio we work around pieces, not themes.”….

She starts her story like this: “There are these jeans 501, forgot in your dad’s wardrobe, except they are handyed, handspun and handwoven. And what about that tracksuit you wore when you were fifteen? It is made of 100% handwoven wool. There are also some denim jackets”. I must say handwoven jeans is already a luxurious contradiction; from industrial workwear to slowear.

“Mathieu Kassovitz’s “La Haine” had a lot of meaning for us this season.

We reproduced Saïd and Vinz’s outfits, because for us that’s what most people still wear everyday…Tracksuits, jeans, denim jackets, backpacks…and we have recreated Vinz and Saïd’s jewellery. They are still as grey as silver but also as soft as velvet. We wanted to reproduce them in a way that would be slightly confusing… So that it somehow would look like a trompe l’oeil of silver. Here you can see the before/after images.

I myself grew up in Paris’s suburb and for me fashion was a Lacoste tracksuit in bright yellow and a pair of Air Max until quite an advanced age unfortunately…So I was very interested in making a luxury version of those.

Enjoy these images, this movie is an amazing flashback to the parisian suburb of the nineties!

And yes, there are a bit of burning cars involved…
