Tanner Almon is a photographer, a film-maker as well as an author and poet. He is a true artist of the French Académia of the 18th century. He is what is called a great visionary and let’s be honest all the good ones are ones that think way out of the box! My obsession with Furballs is quite obvious I think, from my picture in the team page. And I fell in love with Tanner Almon and his lovely wife Vicki’s last year’s Christmas sequence. The story of the furball series is what Tanner calls: A Christmas miracle.
Flatter, to be meant as “more flat”, seems to be a new trend in fashion photography. Lately I happened to see more than one exemple of this trend: A thoughtful fashion shoot entitled Seasonals in the autumn/winter 2010/11 issue of The Gentlewoman magazine, showed a pyramid of clothing excluding the model. The photos were taken by Maurice Scheltens & Liesbeth Abbenes and styled by Jonathan Kaye, and this team, as I discovered after a quick search, repeated this kind of experiment on the third issue of the same magazine, in another fashion shoot called Pristine.
Aoi Kotsuhiroi is a talent, an artist, a photographer and a story teller. What she does is hard to define without using the word “exquisite” every second on the way.
She doesn’t call her creations, designs because Aoi believes that the use of the word design has become a marketing label to replace the word ‘product’. Now based in France, she keeps on creating exquisite works through chapters. I had the chance to ask her a couple of questions about her Body objects.
I saw some of Lissy Elle’s “suspended model” pictures on the web. They attracted me creating a tension, a desire to understand what imaginary world they were part of. I discovered Lissy is herself the suspended model, as she is the main character of all her stories. She creates children’s dreams in her photography, the same ones that many illustrators, who are having success in the last years, are getting their inspiration from as well.
I don’t know about anyone else but I prefer a darker fashion sense, that is always more theatrical and dramatic. As I was strolling around the web I found Barbara Í Gongini. She is a Danish designer who graduated from Danmarks Designskole in 1996 and founded her eco friendly sustainable fashion label in 2005. Besides being a fashion designer she is also involved with photography, music and film. Barbara’s work has a gothic side that is combined with minimalism. The lines created through the clothes show the sense of careless beauty with theatrical twist.
Randomly browsing google images, I found what’s my fave photographer, from today on. It’s the first time a photo brings me to tears. Phillip Toledano was born in London to a French Moroccan mother, and an American father. “He believes that photographs should be like unfinished sentences. There should always be space for questions.” Phillip’s work is socio-political, and varies in medium, from photography, to installation.
You better watch out, You better not cry, Better not pout, I’m telling you why, DesignCatwalk is coming to town! Need other ideas? Specific requests? Just ask. Santariko is here! Harrods has joined forces with Rankin, one of the world’s leading photographers, to create a new fashion book, Couture in the 21st Century. Have you ever had one of those nights where in the next morning the only thing you can remember is having loads of fun and one too many cocktails?
