Cathy Edwards from Central Saint Martins knows who is made for fashion and who’s not, the parade of MA graduates brought more of a talent. Probably over the latest years is quite common that the name Phoebe corrisponds to a great talent for fashion (Phoebe Philo = Celine), Phoebe English looks set to this, she won the L’Oreal Professionel Creative and she worked on a project with a very original and unique concept: hair and dark women.
Phoebe created a catwalk full of floating figures where the hair appear and disappear according to the body movement, revealing glimpses of self. The designer has a rich imagination, which combined to a great research in textiles, led her to also use an 18th century lace-making technique for creating some of his BA collection. There is a sensual and fetish quality to the materials she used, the collection is based on “Gormenghast”, a gothic novel by Mervyn Peake with inspiring hand-drawn illustrations set in dark scenarios.
If you ask to her who is the muse that could wear her creations, the answers relate to names like Daphne Guinness, Tilda Swinton, Florence Welch, while if we talk about fashion, she loves designers such as Peter Pilotto, Alexander McQueen, Alaia and Balenciaga. She has very clear ideas, she mentioned only people with a strong personality and a very unique style. We really love the work of this young but promising great visionary, who’s looking for new ways to make people communicate through fashion.
