rowing next to one of the most famous French illustrators (Pierre Le-Tan) has certainly shaped the life of Olympia Le Tan, she grew up in a house full of books with beautiful covers from forties and fifties. In 2009 she launched her first collection of clutches, where original bags were created after inspirations from famous books. Olympia has met director Spike Jonze who directed a fabulous short film “Mourir Auprès de Toi”, that has been shot in my favorite bookstore in Paris “Shakespeare & Co”. The story tells of a romance between a skeleton escaped from “Macbeth” and Mina of “Dracula” with a “grand final” pictured in two different book covers happy ending.
I really like her way to picture book covers with felt, I find the results very brilliant both in the color choices than in the lettering embroidery and the milk bags are really hilarious. But the covers represents in my opinion her most interesting work, maybe because I love reading, or just because is funny to mix fashion and literature. Olympia’s debut collection was an instant success and her winter collection has another curious name ‘Housewives Choice’, which seems to be based on her own life. Among other things Olympia’s past is full of fashion experiences, she worked with Giles Dufour at Chanel Studio who she followed also to Balmain, but here happened a weird thing, the Maison did not like very much their t-shirt reading “Balmain Bitch” worn by Claudia Shiffer, and decide to make them both fired; but after this misadventure she decided to launch her first collection. Olympia is also a talented DJ, she was the sound designer at renowned nightclub in Paris Le Baron, and DJ for Kirsten Dunst, Yves Saint Laurent, Balenciaga and Purple Magazine parties. My favorite bag is the one portraying Aldous Huxley The door of Perception, even if the book I love more from this author is The Brave New World, but maybe we can ask to Olympia to enrich her library.
