Just as we learnt in our biology lessons, the muscular system works in two motions. While it is active with tension, the muscle is shortened and contracted. When we move the tension away from this equation -and lets call this “Off-Tension”- the muscle is relaxed and extended.

Coinonia’s latest collection for Autumn Winter 2012 captures the essence of this relaxed state. They explain this state as; ” A moment when something gets suddenly released from a certain tension or balance. Everything normally maintains its equilibrium with its certain tension – sometimes being tensioned too much. Even so a moment could arrive when it loses its tension or its own physical balance.  No matter what kind of stimulant it is, this causes a movement, a shift from static into dynamic even for a very short period of time or in a smaller scale.”
The powerful duo who formed Coinonia are Kiho Kim from Korea and Momoko Hashigami from Japan. They established the brand in 2010 and gave the Greek originated (Koinonia) name to their creation in order to emphasize the meaning of it. Coinonia means sharing, relationship and communication. It is an idealized state of all these and an idea of harmonized participation in a team. Kiho and Momoko share their creativity, passion and philosophy for fashion and life. For their Off-Tension collection, they -almost- imitated Michalengelo’s technique. Michalengelo used to carve his sculptures from a block as he continued along he said that the shapes reveal themselves to him. All the collection pieces of Coinonia are first created on mannequins to be given a life and a story by hand under the concept. Their use of chiffon and leather with chains embody both a masculine and feminine attitude, it is still and dynamic, fragile but strong. Coinonia’s designs survive the contradictions that the designers gave birth to and elaborates to the paradox itself.
