New Talents: Everywhere. Fashion Schools: Too Much. Bloggers: Infinite number. Business: Missing?
I’ve been at Palazzo Morando with Caterina Gatta, a new talent selected by vogue, together with Akong London (Nicole Akong), Burak Uyan, Coliac ( Martina Grasselli), Covherlab (Marco Grisolia), Georgia Turri, Glynneth B, Jen Kao, J.W. Anderson, Maria Francesca Pepe, Nuit N°12 (Ludivine Machinet & Frédéric Baldo), Sara Battaglia, Uma Wang e Zou You.
For a long time generally everybody had been complaining about the lack of new talents, the lack of supporting organisations in fashion. Now the situation seems to be completely changed: bloggers, magazines, fashion weeks, trade fairs, everyone fights for the new and upcoming, because it is a must to scout the emerging designers to be on the press and on the web.
I have to say that I am positive about it and that all this “noise” is bringing up many interesting talents and also new opportunities to exchange ideas in this creative world.
Anyway as an insider and having a personal interest in this sector all of it makes me also very doubtful: who is really pushing the issue to refresh the fashion world and the fashion business? Who’s really trying to help real talents and highly creative and imaginative designers of the future? Who’s taking a the biggest piece of the cake?
It is hard and cruel outside there! I sincerly suggest that Fashion schools should add a “Fashion Jungle Survivors” class to their programs…
For the same reasons we love fashion we hate it too. It is exposed to all winds. It is an imaginary world of beauty which touches our real life; but no rose lacks of its horns, no art comes without pain.
To be cured through catharsis.
