Moto Guo’s Battle in Fashion sees a Geeky Winner

Moto Guo is a Malaysian-based menswear designer who launched his label in 2013. NJAL says about him and his graduation collection: “Out Like A Light” featured a delightful assortment of designs that are telltale signs of his identity; wacky yet dexterous. With an aversion to shedding light on his personal self, Moto Guo chooses to have his works speak for itself.

Pushing the envelope a little further from the over-indulged trends in menswear, Moto chose to play around the subtlety of boyish, geeky fashion. The idea behind ‘Out Like a Light’ is surprisingly about Moto’s own life as a kid, battling obesity and nutrient imbalance. Weighing at 80kg and standing 149cm tall, Moto took inspiration from the sleep…”

His story and inspiration is contemporary, an insight and rebirth of a generation that sees its body through fashion and its image in social media and confronts itself on those platforms that allow a hidden yet direct confrontation on very personal themes.

If his inspiration comes from sleep I imagine Moto’s dreams very soft and white, where food and the ability to connect with an imagined body, a desire, takes shape in volumes that remind the softness of a body that was. Check his Instagram for a personal insight.
