I was pleasantly surprised of course, MUTA is a film directed by Argentinean Lucrecia Martel, created to define both the meaning mute than the process of transformation. The director goes through a diverted vision of fashion focusing on feelings of obsession where femininity is trapped between power and resistance.
I really loved this movie, both the film editing and the photography are great, the androgyn rythm of a group of girls who travel onboard a ship and try to save themselves from the absence of anchors of love.
Martel’s singular film is a mesmerizing personal reflection on the transformative power of femininity at the heart of the Miu Miu obsession. MUTA follows Zoe Cassavetes’ opulent and dreamy tale The Powder Room and will be followed by two more short films by distinctive female filmmakers, to be announced soon.
