I lost my mind when I found Tsumori Chisato’s collection!
Months ago I wrote on facebook the thread “I lost my mind“, most of my friends thought I fell in love, instead I was actually looking at the AW 11/12 Tsumori Chisato’s collection. It’s becoming harder to find consistency and innovation perfectly mixed together in clothes, even if it’s not so rare to find it when you’ve worked for years with a big name such us Issey Miyake. Tsumori has evoked a parade of colors on knits and tights in which creativity becomes a big factor; by evolving her knits, the designer keeps up with a renewed vision of woman, defining a new shape of femininity through fabrics which usually are not addressed to sensuality. Tsumori Chisato studied fashion at the prestigious Bunka School in Tokyo and after some years of work and the encouragement of Mr. Miyake himself, she started her own line in 1990, a collection that made its catwalk debut in Tokyo at the Japan Fashion Week that same year. Chisato’s signature style was soon celebrated with her innovative and luxurious textiles, intricate beading, embroidery, appliqués and prints of her own design. Graceful, elegant and fun at the same time, Tsumori’s work has been greatly appreciated over the years. The prestigious “Maïnichi Award” is just one of numerous prizes she has received in recognition of her design achievements. She always had a particular penchant for all things French, so she chose Paris as the destination for her first free-standing shop outside Japan. The Christian Biecher designed boutique opened on rue Barbette in 1999. Situated in the heart of the Marais neighbourhood, the boutique showcases Tsumori Chisato’s love for the arts through collaborations with photographers, visual artists and set designers exhibited in the storefront. Her artistic sensibility is also translated throught the brand’s inventive advertising campaigns. In 2003, Tsumori Chisato launched her first menswear line and began showing her women’s collection during Paris Prêt-à-Porter Fashion Week. I love Tsumori, there’s a sweet side that comes out from her creativity, a funny personality hidden by colours, shapes, lines and textures, which transform a girl into an happy woman.
