Who remembers the song “I don’t know what to do with myself”? A famous hit of the popular American band “The Stripes”. Well, the lyrics of this music could summarize the relationship I recently had with my hair, a rather turbulent conflict is going on between me and my curly. Then, in order to give a rest to my rebel head and to my mirror, I decided to do a search of hairdos photos of 60’s stars.

Rachel Welch and Amanda Lear have passed this selection becoming the elected for this post. I also did some research that can mimic their look, trying to do a juxtaposition of past and present accessories. I clearly admit I love 60’s, these girls were queens somehow, everything was unexplored, there was a kind of easy with which one could approached fashion and beauty.

Talking of accessories, I found an hair comb of the young Mirit Weinstock, a designer I met during the last Milan fashion week; the comb is created by badminton balls, a synthetic plumage that is in part covered with gold… just fab. In addition there are other accessories which are perfect for the looks like the UGG Headband, a cool must have for the cold winter; UGG is definitely more suited to NYC’s weather at this time, since that the city is white with snow; in Milan we still have to wait to wear it, there’s an Indian summer still on air.

At the end of this post you will find a photo of my hair, I just highlighted all my face to stress the hairdos (and because I’m quite shy), so be prepared to the worst… lol

Fashion would be a word with too many parameters for Alexis Reyna. He designs, he paints, he performs, he writes. He takes it to the edge. He´s a savage designer. He´s an expressionist. I´ve met Alexis while we were working for Desigual two years ago, more or less in the same period when he was presenting his fantastic collection “Unleashed” at the 080 Barcelona Fashion week and from where some pieces were chosen for singer M.I.A.s last world tour.

Due to that time spent sitting next to each other i kind of figured out that even though Alexis has made several collaborations with established international brands such as Filippa K., J.Lindeberg and Desigual, and made the Womenswear Master at Central Saint Martins, he´s a self taught. He´s got his own singular method, experimental and instinctive, completely free spirited creatively.

He uses fashion as a way of expression, as an exorcism, as a catharsis; and somehow he succeeds to introduce all the results into the world of fashion. He blasts colors over his garments, he deconstructs patterns, he doesn´t follow the proportions, he sticks nails over his jackets, or maybe he just plays the same tune over and over with his electric guitar. Everything is order in the chaos.

EROIKA 1.0 SPRING-SUMMER 2010 at the 080 Barcelona Fashion Week

DUD.ZIN.SKA is a brand runned by Anna Dudzinska, a Fashion Designer based in Poland. Anna’s collections may be described as a street style avant-garde, combining different subjects such as construction vs. deconstruction, old vs. new, pretty vs. ugly etc. She’s inspired by modern architecture and interior design and those subjects could be found in her works. She also designs short RTW collections recognized as a FASH.LAB.

Her latest collection ARCH.TEKT.ONIK uses modern architecture to interact with an old, industrial world.
Luster, metallic fabrics in grey colours are mixed up with used and soiled ones in beiges (together with old stamps like from shipping boxes). Futuristic shapes are conjuncted with classic forms. Altogether it gives a unique, AW11/12 women collection.

KARLOTALASPALAS finds inspiration in her own human nature, her deepest feelings, her everyday surroundings, all makes part of a whole that walks towards us over the catwalk when she shows us her collections.

While watching her last/award winner collection “Believe” my sight blends between the lines, the textures and neutral colors on her clothes, inspired on the sculpture of Giuseppe Sanmartino il Cristo Velato in Napoli, the dust over head, hands and boots, recalls a marble sculptor right after working on a masterpiece, the drapings in linen and cotton are inspired on the veil over Christ’s corpse. Simple but full of meaning. Everything feels so sincere, clear and pure while watching this collection of white marble dust wanderers; their strong walk, the optimist atmosphere.

This Barcelona based Spanish designer has won twice the male collection 080 Barcelona Fashion award, with 29 years old and almost 4 years over the catwalks she s probably one of the most remarkable emerging young Spanish designers of this times. KARLOTALASPALAS says she feels more comfortable making males clothes. She thinks the future is uncertain, while she concentrates to bring her clothes closer to the people and for that she gets support with her NO SEASON showroom in Paris. She believes, she creates, while her pieces propose strength, simplicity and a positive attitude.

Last week I had the luck to enter to one of the most exclusive areas in the 080 Barcelona fashion week: the backstage. Here s where I shared all the excitement, nerves and efforts of the designers launching their new spring summer 2012 collections at the historical building of the University of Barcelona.

Male collection award winner Karlota Laspalas delighted us with her white painted soldiers in her collection “Believe”, Women collection award winner Manuel Bolaño presented a colorful positively driven dramatic collection “How to heal a broken heart” full of tiny colored skulls, roses and daisies while black tears dripped out of the models eyes. New Zealander designer Ehud proposed geometrical structures in tailored pieces in contrast with technological fabrics and electric colors. Juan Pedro Lopez and his stunning muses floating in transparencies and silk braid dresses, Miriam Ponsa and her spontaneous living cloth dolls and the dessert and last show of the fashion week Krizia Robustella with her sweet and sticky “lick my ice cream baby” collection were some of the “main dishes” between other talented and well known designers such as English designer Omar Kashoura, Toni Francesc, the designer trio Brain and Beast, Steffie Christiaens, Yiorgos Eleftheriades, Mal – Aimeé, etc… Here some shots of some exciting moments at the backstage, more coming soon!

A Paris based studio, a trend setter  with an amazing view on how your next head of hair needs to be, Marisol collaborated with big names and still continues to surprise proposing very experimental themes. This is the time for Plastic Dreams, places where hair changes solidity, transforms itself in something more rigid and with a definite shape. Blond is a must with a wide choice of pied nuances, or at least it seems so, considering that little space is left for the brunette models. Short or long hair? Straight or curly? Mexican designer duo TRISTA formed by Giovanni Estrada and Jose Alfredo Silva explores the meanings of human body volumes and silhouettes applying  a constantly evolving formula which brings together architectural patterns and research of quality fabrics and new color compositions. As a result the TRISTA language, their unique aesthetic which talks to an urban woman that is real, delicate but confident, an intellectual dreamer, full of life and elegant… This groundbreaking couple belongs to the new generation of Mexican fashion designers. Both graduated in 2006 from the institute IES Moda (better known as casa de Francia Fashion Institute) in Mexico City, in 2007 they made their catwalk debut in the Mexico Fashion week winning the ‘Lycra Award’ for best new fashion designer. Subsequently they participated in several fashion platforms in Mexico, Brazil and Colombia, Japan and Spain. In 2010 they launched their new lines “TRISTA BRIDE” and “Base 3”.
Their new Spring Summer 2011 collection INIMICÒ XI is based on their fundamental recurrent question: “Who is TRISTA? “. It is inspired on the Trista’s woman intimacy, this time a more mature TRISTA, who explores with confidence her sexuality. This leads to their rawness and unique handmade experimental watercolor graphics printed in a subtle, delicate way over silk georgettes and chamusses; transparencies and drapings, tailored silhouettes and heavy fabrics, strong magentas, sands, purples and light colors like mint greens, metallic greys and fuchsias in total harmony, where every piece complement and contrast each other simultaneously. The INIMICÒ XI collection will be launched in March 2011.

During the beginning of a fashion career, it is every girls dream to work for a high-end fashion designer. My dream became a reality when I had the chance to observe the creation of a new designer brand. Ladies, meet your new best friend…Liz Black. As a Central Saint Martins graduate, Liz knows the pressures of graduating from such an elite college; with graduates such as Zac Posen, Stella McCartney and the infamous John Galliano, it is quite clear that a graduate has something to prove; and from what I’ve seen, that’s exactly what Liz has done.

Based in a busy studio in Chancery Lane, Liz had originally started her A/W 11-12 collection in her home, but in just 6 months has found a perfect space and has transformed it into a fast-paced and working studio, which now feels like my second home. With a small group of staff supporting her, Liz has managed to create a collection to rival the fashion greats; her subtly futuristic neoprene dress and sharp sensuede tailoring compliment the female silhouette with ease…someone who knows what women want! A personal favourite of mine, is the little white dress; with a crisp white sensuede tailored outline and a gorgeous charcoal organza contrast glazing the back; I have no doubt we will see a gorgeous actress gracing the pages of Vogue in a Liz Black design in the very near future. Her talent has also become international, as she is presenting her first collection at Tranoï’s Montaigne showroom, this coming fashion week, a notable achievement for an opening collection.

My experience of an evolving designer has been truly eye opening. Watching the creation of garments before my eyes has been an invaluable experience for me as the new girl in fashion. As a Liz Black girl, my views may seem a little biased, but you really have to see the garments to believe the quality, style and fit they provide. If you don’t believe me, trust Vogue Italia – hailing her as a ‘designer to watch out for ‘ she is irrefutably, the one to watch.

Escentric Molecules is a range of fragrances by the notorious nose Geza Schoen, who created fragrances for Diesel, Bombay Sapphire and for the couture label Boudicca, but decided to initiate this independent project in 2006. It’s not a fragrance, but a solitary synthetic effect of the aroma-chemical ISO E, we might define it as the ‘anti-fragrance’.
