Roberta Savelli . Drawing stars
Among my various books, some days ago I found with great surprise a personal present that the illustrator Roberta Savelli gave me years ago. I had forgotten the beauty of her illustrations and the special touch that Roberta uses to depict human figures. In addition to this very personal style, I noticed that her latest works are poetic references of girls who paint constellations of stars. The first idea that ran across my mind was that one of a strong light that goes from these ethereal ladies to the outside, a powerful source of luminescence that can enlight the night. ...

How to cook your life . From the Zen kitchen to Enlightenment
By the same token that you do not indulge in a meal because of its particularly good taste, there is no reason to feel an aversion towards an ordinary one. Do not be negligent and careless just because the materials seem plain, and hesitate to work more diligently with materials of superior quality. ...

This is a man’s world and it would be nothing without a… beard
If the age of a tree can be determined by the rings it contains within, consider a man's whiskers his own measuring stick. They come in all shapes and sizes. And the eventually will all turn grey at some point. Long or short, thick or thin, unkempt or cropped, the hair on a man's chin can say a lot about the time he has spent on this planet. Growing a beard is not something that can be rushed. It's a slow process, staring at you in the mirror everyday. It is the epitome of the word "time". And time can do a lot of things to a man. It can build him memories, friendships, and loves. It can take those very things away. The question I am inevitably asked when meeting someone is "I wish I could grow a beard like tha...

I attended my first exhibition of Andrew Zuckerman few years ago in New York, I was wandering around the Winter Garden of the World Financial Center when I stumbled upon a myriad of big banners hanging from the ceiling, amazing portraits of famous people enriched the exhibition centered on the theme of Wisdom. I had never heard of him, but as soon as I saw his photos of the "Bird" book inside a temporary container in the hall (his famous portraits series of animals), I fell instantly in love with his pictures. After few years, here we are again, the photographer and filmmaker has recently launched another amazing book of photos, the subject this time is based on stunning Portraits of Flowers. Tim Walker’s Granny’s Alphabet
"Third Age" is cool. Blogs like Advanced Style and personalities like Iris Apfel or the - still - beautiful Carmen dell'Orefice (82 years old and 66 in modeling), not to talk about Angela Lansbury recently shot by Terry Richardson for The Gentlewoman, are the proof that growing old can be far from depressing. But now also the super creative and surreal fashion photographer Tim Walker jumps into the trend publishing a two-volumes coffee table book about the style of old ladies. "Granny's Alphabet" depicts faboulous old ladies with their personal and most loved belongings, Part photographic love letter to the elderly and part documentation of the dying breed of little old ladies who live down the lane, in Tim Wal...

You have the possibility to give light a dimension in time . Jonas Mekas
In the latest days an interesting exhibition is taking place at Serpentine Gallery London, one among my favorite art galleries. This exhibition surveys the poet and avant-garde film-maker Jonas Mekas's work with moving images, poetry and sound, presenting a selection of film and video works. Born in Lithuania and then moved to NY because of war, Jonas Mekas settled in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, where , two weeks after his arrival, he borrowed the money to buy his first Bolex 16-mm camera and began to record moments of his life, discovering avant-garde film. It is true that your destiny follows you wherever you decide or are you obliged to live, so Mekas start to work on personal projects and to be heavily involve...

Emotions aren’t covered by single words . Jeffrey Eugenides
Emotions, in my experience, aren't covered by single words. I don't believe in "sadness," "joy," or "regret." Maybe the best proof that the language is patriarchal is that it oversimplifies feeling. I'd like to have at my disposal complicated hybrid emotions, Germanic train-car constructions like, say, "the happiness that attends disaster."...
