Here beautiful backstage pics of the adv photoshoot that Sissi did for Furla.  She won the Furla award in 2002  and was called for their special designer collaboration project to create accessories for their last collection.

I love the styling and hair a lot. I really think this collaboration works and doesn’t take away anything too much from art or fashion.

Here the interview as promised:

-What do you feel to be the most important steps in your way up to now?
My job is growing on me like a plant that seeks the light.
I feel that we grow together and in this evolution each step has been crucial in lifting the feet off the ground.
The Furla Prize in 2002 gave me visibility ‘; in the personal exhibition “Nests” at Macro in Rome in 2004 I explained my poetic migration to seek a nest, a refuge; the New York Prize made me feel a spore who flies and contaminates; exhibiting at the Chelsea Art Museum and the Brooklyn Museum in NY  I conversed and compared my work discovering it in diversity of style. The Venice Biennale in 2009 was my endurance and the exhibition at Pomodoro Foundation that takes place in during these days makes me feel like a tree that sheds its leaves to hear them and see them new each time.

-Did you come across the fashion world in the strict sense other times?
The most direct meeting came winning Furla prize in  the 2002 and then making the adv campaign this year, 2010, and creating the capsule accessories collection inspired on my artwork I am wearing in the shooting: a rope with snaplinks that declines in the necklace, ring, belt, chain.
I made an installation inspired by the work Voliare for the new talent’s fashion show sponsored by the Chamber of Fashion in Milan.

-Many designers are now often provided by the art world and sometimes vice versa (although, allowing myself a generalising view, with perhaps thinner results dealing with different fields, or just call themselves artists. this definition is still debated, questionably rejected by some and defended by others. What do you think?
I think what’s often pushing to get out of a border is the need not to see it. A necessary desire to research and change to get more nourishment from what surrounds us. This for I do not to criticise anybody because I understand the joy of expanding, although I think you should always keep conscience and sincerity.

-How worked the collaboration with Furla?
Furla wanted to bring further the partnership between the company and its art Foundation. I started to test the project that will continue with other artists who participated in the award.
-How did you work on it? Did you first design the accessories or first you came out with the idea of using the body for the shooting?
First came the campaign then we realised that was very strong and compelling and we have decided to create more contamination between communication and the concrete aspect of  sales.

Sissi showed also at Villa Celle (one of my favourite art collections in Italy – visit it if you have the chance) and did a cover for Kult Magazine that I will show you when I find it!

Non ho avuto grandi sorprese quando ho visto le foto degli ultimi abiti proposti da Comme de Garcons per la linea svedese H&M. Le foto degli indossati sono belle, i close-up dei vestiti… non tanto. Ho deciso che sarebbe stato meglio dar fiducia al giudizio del Sig. Kawakubo, anche perché deve essere stato un sogno riuscire a portare la propria linea di abbigliamento ad un pubblico così vasto, per non parlare dei vincoli sicuramente affrontati nel ridimensionare una collezione adattandola agli standard di produzione di H&M. Ma il nuovo Kawakubo è parso come un piccolo tradimento al proprio stile nella collaborazione con Louis Vuitton. Concordo col fatto che se fossi un famigerato designer e mi venisse proposto di ridisegnare la famosa collezione delle borse LV, io probabilmente rinuncerei subito. Posso solo sperare che le borse provenienti da questa collaborazione siano il risultato di grandi compromessi progettuali del Sig. Kawakubo. Onestamente sembra Margiela alla prima stagione da Hermes … intrigante, ma un pò deludente. Analizzando tutto dal punto di vista del marketing, ovviamente i disegni sono geniali. La classica “speedy” rifatta con manici multipli è passabile (e carina) ed i ciondoli con Telebubby sono brillanti, ma nel complesso la collezione sembra essere priva di quel “qualcosa” alla Kawakubo… quel qualcosa che sinceramente manca da un pò di tempo.

Where is Rei Kawakubo?
I kept quiet when I saw photos of the actual clothes proposed for the Comme de Garcons for H&M line.  The press photos are beautiful, the close-ups of the clothes…not so much.  But I decided it was better to trust Ms. Kawakubo’s judgement, it must have been a long standing dream to bring her clothing line to the public and there are large constraints when downsizing your line to H&M production standards. BUT, this new Kawakubo for Louis Vuitton collaboration just seemed like betrayal.  I agree that if I was a infamous famous designer and I was approached to redesign the LV handbags classics I would probably jump at the chance.  I can only hope that the bags that seem to be coming from this collaboration are the result of large design compromises on the side of Ms. Kawakubo.  Honestly it looks like Margiela’s first season at Hermes…intriguing but a bit of a letdown.  Analyzing this from a business sense the designs are genius.  The classic speedy redone with the multiple handles is viable (and aesthetic) and the concept of Telebubby charms is brilliant but the collection as a whole seems to be lacking that Kawakubo ‘thing’…a ‘thing’ that I have been missing for quite some time.
