SOUL TRAPPINGS: BJORG
Jewelry designer Bjørg Nordli-Mathisenstated stated: “For me jewelry is a very intimate thing which reflects our passions and emotions. I believe we all need joy and some glitz in our lives, and l feel very privileged to have the opportunity to make a difference to other people by adding some sparkle to special occasions as well as those random days in between.”
And her designs surely are something special. Bjørg was born in 1966 in Norway, nevertheless travelled throughout the world from the age of seventeen. During her college degree she started working in the fashion industry specializing in knitting and was exhibiting her clothing lines in Norway, Japan and Germany. Moving from different sections of the industry on a travel to the East in 2001 she moved to India where she discovered the colourful and vibrant nature of gems and natural stones. This fascination toward the hidden beauty of earth in India, she moved towards her ultimate passion; jewelry design. She said that she never really liked classical jewelry and thought they did not have a soul, moreover she loved customizing pieces that she discovered during travels. The collection bares an unfinished feel due to the aesthetic approach of Bjørg. She calls these silver, gold and bronze creations as “beauty of imperfection”. Each piece has its own story and its own imperfections which makes them special. Besides the innovative and at the same time native designs, I appreciate the short films she has collaborated with as a promo for the jewelry.
Certainly they blend with the idea of having a soul per se and being one of a kind and unique.
