Beware of a man’s shadow and a bee’s sting: Tara Dougans’ animated editorial

Lately, I’m becoming more and more fond of menswear. Having always focused on womanswear, both for job reasons and passion, I find myself thinking that you need actually loads of creativity to make menswear that’s playful but not too funny, wearable but original: and an increasing number of designers is showing a new image of man, more self-confident and colorful, without resulting childish or silly. So I was reading an interview and this sentence struck my eyes: Menswear somehow feels more open to interpretation, visually its delivery tends to be more subtle than womenswear, so a little twist of playfulness goes a long way. Yes! Excactly what I mean!

These are the words of the Canadian, London based visual artist Tara Dougans about her project “Beware of a man’s shadow and a bee’s sting”. The title is a Burmese proverb that inspired her in the making of a beautiful animated editorial gathering all last seasons most iconic menswear looks according to Tara. Featuring Dries Van Noten, Juun.J, Lucas Ossendrijver and Alber Elbaz for Lanvin, Thom Browne, Riccardo Tisci for Givenchy, Walter Van Beirendonck and Kim Jones for Louis Vuitton… (in order of appearance: Dries Van Noten, Juun.J, Lanvin, Thom Browne, Givenchy, Walter Van Beirendonck, Louis Vuitton)

It’s a pleasure for the eyes. Enjoy the video!
