I fell in love with the story first. The photos captured me in to the story that passes through the woods. Its romantic, ironic, mysterious and sometimes even eerie. It is the lost princess playing with the road kill. I fell for this contrast as Amanda Adomaitis fell for fashion. She originally studied Literature which is possibly the reason to why she is astonished by the story telling and mythical, non-existent creatures. After literature while completing her Graduate diploma in CSM she developed her love for hand drawn illustrations which add to the character of her designs. She is not only designing the pattern but also designing the print on the textile as well. After MA in London College of Fashion she was chosen the finalist in the 2010 Mittelmoda to represent her collection in Italy. In order to capture the essence of her collection she chose to do a shoot in the woods which was a brilliant idea considering the hesitant nature of her collection. There is a certain stillness about the clothes. Nothing shouts out, nevertheless they are no where near understated. In this story, everything compliments each other in such an antithesis that it works! Amanda studied Literature originally which could be understood from the extraordinary story telling of her collection the Uncanny Creatures and now she works as a fashion designer, illustrator and textile designer. Her work is very sensual and emotional and prodigious; in her words “when one is both attracted to and repulsed by something.”
Her designs are a combination of opposites and they carry the irony within the story as well as in each piece; through the textile, print and the cut. Her prints are of awe-inspiring, bizarre creatures that attracts and repulses. Frankly, I can’t decide if I love them or hate them, but for sure they have a striking side to them. Amanda Adomaitis, with her monsters and creatures is definitely one of the top in my list of watch-outs!
