Fashion in the lower hemisphere

Talking about fashion we tend to stuck to the usual markets and fashion cities: Milan, London, Paris, New York.
Ever thought about Africa?
Arise Magazine is the first international style magazine of Africa.
ARISE is a celebration of African achievement in fashion, music, culture and polity. A media first, it provides an unashamedly positive portrayal of Africa and its contribution to contemporary society across the world. The magazine had its successful soft launch in October 2008, after which the high-end, large-format glossy hit international newsstands as a monthly on February 13 2009 – the date of the ARISE African Fashion Collective show debut at Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week (NYFW). Since this date, it is successfully going on publishing, giving an unexpected perspective on an emerging trend.
There’s a book I want to buy, it’s called Gentlemen Of Bacongo, published by Trolley, written (and photographed) by Daniele Tamagni. It’s all about these African dandies, who spend all their few earnings on smart ultra bright clothes, and founded a gentlemen society called Société des Ambianceurs et des Personnes Élégantes (Society of Tastemakers and Elegant People) in a unique combination of poverty and fashion. One of them says: “A Congolese sapeur is a happy man even if he does not eat, because wearing proper clothes feeds the soul and gives pleasure to the body.”
